Tags are colored labels you attach to records — accounts, contacts, leads, opportunities, jobs — for quick filtering and lightweight classification. The tags settings page is where the catalog of available tags lives.
What you can do here
- Create a tag with a name, color, and entity-type scope.
- Edit a tag's name, color, or scope.
- Delete a tag. Records currently tagged with it are unaffected except they lose the tag.
- Search the tag library when it grows large.
Tags vs custom fields
- Use a tag for binary, ad-hoc, or evolving classifications. Easy to add, easy to retire.
- Use a custom field when the classification is structured and reportable — required values, fixed list, or a property the record always has.
Tips
- Don't use tags as a stage system. That's what pipelines are for.
- Retire tags that have stopped being used. A bloated tag library is a signal nobody is curating it, which leads to inconsistent tagging.
